The Food, Drug and Gene Administration (FDGA) is an agency of the Department of Health responsible for regulating human and animal food, dietary supplements, drugs, cosmetics, genetic engineering, medical devices, radiation-emitting devices and blood products in the North American Union.
The FDGA called for further clinical trials on two of the most popular dietary supplements on 22 April 2144 following a product recall by Microfriends, Inc., their manufacturer. Fat Freeze and Libidos both use genetically-engineered micro-organisms known as benevolent parasites to turn fat into protein. Fat Freeze is a popular diet aid, while Libidos was designed to enhance sexual drive and performance. Both products tested safe in the laboratory, but in actual use the parasites greatly exceeded laboratory levels. Some Fat Freeze customers simply wasted away, while Libidos users were exhausting themselves and their partners.
